On warrior Poetry

Poetry has many faces. It can hurt. It can heal. Poems command attention with a whisper, allowing poet surgeons to remove bullets and cactus spines in quiet, calm serenity. With only four words, poetry can take down the dam. Poetry enables one to shout from a mountain top without disturbing the valley. It empowers the meek with a nuclear pen and resurrects the frail with bionic words. Poetry wields power to alter history no warhead can match. If there is a clip for bullets, a quill for poison arrows, a platoon for soldiers and a formation for the cavalry, these must all take their place in line behind the magnesium fire, the cool running liquid, the rose pedal words of Warrior Poetry.

I enjoy writing science fiction, I am compelled to write poetry, and I especially like to write short stories in the form of narrative poems!

N
eon Lake Leon

Some time ago we embarked on a quest
Drove through the night and landed out west
Lake Leon and Tumbleweeds welcomed us there
Surrounded by dogs on our favorite chair

Out on the lake a fin broke the surface
Some giant catfish with will and a purpose
The shoreline was chalky the evening quite starry
Lake Leon you know, was at one time a quarry

And above gorgeous Leon, a sky of pastels
ringing bright colors like missions ring bells
The place was so quiet it hearkened back centuries
The trees sparse and barren were lined up like sentries

If ever you find yourself knee deep in Texas
Don't make a fuss that you'll muddy your Lexus
And do make the time for sublime ol' Lake Leon
As stunning a lake as one ever could be on

Joseph John Racano

Lake Leon II

One thing we can all agree on
Is the rapturous beauty of Neon Lake Leon
Take out a rowboat and be set free on
Sit by her shores and get your tree on

I hope that I thanked her enow in my haste
For trampling her white chalky banks to a paste
Never to visit again seems a waste
Of the joyous expressions she brought to my face

For beautiful scenery this place is a nexus
Come seek out the bony remains of T-Rexes
Travelers who see her abandon their Lexus
Home of the biggest dam catfish in Texas

Neon Lake Leon shine on like a star
Reflect the great Milky Way, whose child you are
I’ll always remember your taste on my tongue
And the cool crystal waters that made me feel young

Oh Butterfly

Butterfly on Yarrow
Such colorful compartments
I postulate they operate
As separate departments

Please return tomorrow
To this very garden
Kneeling will be easier
When the ground begins to harden

I have so many questions like,
Where'd you learn to fly
Are your brilliant colors meant
To be-dazzle my adoring eye?

Butterfly on Yarrow
May I count on your return
You  haven't even left yet
and my heart already yearns

Take good care those tender wings
Powdered like a Goddess
Sorry that, of all your friends
I'm sure
I seem the oddest

Your inner circle must include
both damsel fly and frog
And I await their spring release
As sun warms up the bog

Somehow I feel quite assured
Our tethers keep us bound and moored
Now fly away, I know you must
But leave behind some fairy dust!

The Berryessa Bluebird

On the shores of Berryessa
in the early days of spring
when Aluetian Geese ride a stiff March breeze
and the birds begin to sing

The Berryessa Bluebird flew into my life
from beneath the cloak of a lichened oak
and he brought along his wife

The lake was a misty madness
that made it hard to see
around and through the drops of dew
that moistened our RV

He stood before our mirror
reflecting on himself
His back a hue of electric blue
And manner none of stealth

It may have been the peanuts
It could have been the seeds
Or perhaps the Blackbirds there
were using all the reeds

He took on his reflection
To the challenge he did rise
For the bird of his affection
He would fight until he dies

He hollered, 'say the password'
But his rival did the same
They shouted at the exact same time,
'Who goes there- what’s your name'

But he had no need to worry
For the handsome bird in blue
Was his very own reflection
Mr. Bluebird- it’s just you!
